“Entrepreneurship regrows your brain from the damage school has done”
— Robert Kiyosaki
Do you agree? I have learnt a lot in school, but I mostly get paid for what I have learnt outside of school.
What does this tell us? The educational system was developed in a time where society mainly needed workers (industrial revolution). We have evolved from a manufacturing industry to a service provider industry, but our school system hasn’t changed yet. The next generation does not learn much of practical knowledge like financial intelligence or
How can we solve this problem?
How can our educational system gear towards a more feasible knowledge? I never showcase gaps and problems without at least an attempt of a solution.
Here is my perfect “education system”:
Let successful professionals and entrepreneurs teach! Imagine a Social Media Class with Gary Vaynerchuck (Founder of Wine Library and Vaynermedia), Law classes hold by Phil Beck (Recognized by The National Law Journal as Lawyer of the Year Runner-Up in 2001, for Top Defense Verdicts in 1994 and 1997, and as a “Winning Lawyer” in 1997 and 2003), Financial Security 101 by Robert Kawasaki, Public Speaking by Anthony Robbins and so on…. That would be a school indeed worth $10k per semester!
The government could support the engagement of these great professionals in our school system by giving them tax deductions for their time they spent to educate our children. It would be a win — win situation. Higher education and a new breed of academics with a higher chance to change the world!
On this note let’s take a look on the recent efforts of our government to improve the educational system after we got ranked badly in comparison to other nations world wide. We tried to evaluate and improve the system through standardized testing. Let’s see how this went so far…. Cheers to John Oliver!
Until our educational system changes I have the following advice for young students:
1. Find out what your passion is and what you want to do on a daily basis
2. Find a role models who are where you want to be in 5, 10, 20 and 30 years
3. Follow their pattern of success and add a twist of yourself (it will happen automatically)
4. Set up goals and define your purpose in life and write these things down
5. If you don’t meet the goals change what you are doing
6. Surround yourself with people who are as successful as you want to be — if physically not possible than surround yourself virtually with these kind of people through books, podcasts and videos.
